(2-minute read) – Dear new DA Councillors and Mayors, we need mindful leaders at this critical time in our country’s political history.
When we look back on the events of the past month let us call it one of the greatest times in the evolution of our democracy.
You cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past or there may be no turning back.
The collective mind of your leadership must be mindful of the snares that their predecessors succumbed to.
Corruption
The snares are many, but the most dangerous is corruption.
I don’t believe any Councillors start out with intentions of being corrupt. But the erosion of values by the capitalist machine is powerful. Corruption is easily disguised as good old relationship building, or even friendship.
Many a well-meaning political leader has ended up knee deep in the muddy quicksand of corruption before they’ve known it.
The reason they got knee deep is simple. They let themselves slip into mindlessness, one small step at a time. They dipped a toe in, and then a foot, and soon the quicksand gripped their weakened minds and they became numb to their consciences.
They did this because all kinds of corrupt suitors masterfully inflated their egos. Their false selves believed that it was their time to benefit to the maximum – their time to eat – even at the expense of the very people that elected them.
But none of them started out on the take in the mud and the stench of the gravy train. Shrewd peddlers fed off their greed and pride to get them aboard. If they’d practiced mindfulness they would have been aware of the subtle corruption of their minds. They would have known that corruption is a one-way ticket to personal destruction and to societal neglect. So they would have jumped off the gravy train before it left the station.
Take note new Councillors
DA Councillors be mindful of the snares that are surely being set for you by name right now. Be mindful of the consequences of taking your ticket to board that train. Then choose to stay on the platform, stand aside and let it pass.
You have won some local elections, but you have not proven yourselves worthy leaders yet.
Prove yourselves now. Choose to make this a time of transformation. A time that will define you in history as generous and committed – as great leaders.
Let us look back and say your rise to leadership was a watershed moment in the rise of our country. Let us see that the blue of your logo proved to bring the blue aspects of Spiritual Intelligence to our country – aspects of self-control and calm on our road to recovery from the injuries of the snares.
Let us see leaders being mindful.
